My Books
In 2010, 'Italy on Screen' was published by Peter Lang AG as vol. 9 of New Studies in European Cinema, edited by Lucy Bolton and Christina Siggers Manson. It has twelve contributions including my essay 'The Catholic Church in Il Bidone: Salvation or Swindle?' in which notions of contradiction, ambiguity and authenticity vs inauthenticity are shown to be recurrent themes in Fellini's approach to the Church, but so too the presence of innocence and grace are identified as authentic spiritual ideas. For some images from the film go to Italy on Screen: the four faces of Augusto.
In 2004 I published 'The Filmgoer's Guide to God'.
In 1972 I helped in preparing for press 'The World Encyclopaedia of Film'.
I am working on a new text, 'Cinema and its possibilities'.
I have written a long essay (too long for an article, too short for a book) on 'Cinema and the Holocaust'.
