Guy Sherwin is a British film-maker who has been making experimental films since the early 1970s, having started among the cluster of experimental film-makers who launched their careers from the London Film Makers' Co-operative. In 2007, LUX brought out a DVD of his optical sound films which allows a retrospective view of Sherwin's originality and brilliance in this cinematic niche.
The pdf here is an essay extolling the virtues of these films, and an introduction of a kind to Guy Sherwin, who deserves to be better known.
Correction: at the end of the essay I express the hope for a second DVD of Sherwin films. That was because I hadn't realized there was one. But there is.
