Avant Garde

I first saw so-called 'underground films' as a young man in Oxford in May 1968, courtesy of the package of films with which P. Adams Sitney toured Europe. They made an indelible impression, fostering a desire to make films myself (see page on my films), influencing how I did so, and stimulating forty years of thinking. The result so far is essays on Brakhage, Breer, Beavers and Sherwin, and insights into how 'Into Great Silence' should be viewed.
